Now that they’re getting on in years, I regularly see 8th generation (2006-20 11) Honda Civics with paint that’s straight up peeling to all hell. So basically, bad paint is to 8th gen Civics as fender well rust is to 90s/00s Mazdas.

My 8th gen (black) had either a TSB or an actual recall on the paint, iirc. I think it was black cars only though and as a result of a class action lawsuit.

My girlfriend drives a 2006 Civic with terrible paint. There was a recall years ago to get it repainted for free, but she was too busy for those 6 months, and now it isn’t worth paying to repaint. Picture from about 4 years ago. It's worse now.

I’ve seen paint go on these even in the PNW. Accords of this era and especially the 98-02 gen also seem to be impacted, especially if a dark color.

My girlfriend’s Civic also has that paint issue. It’s gotten a lot worse in the past 6 months than the past two years she’s owned it.

That looks like about half of the “entry-level” cars you see across the entire southern half of the US. Normally it’s because they’re parked outside, it only takes a few years of neglect to look like that. But yes, Hondas are pretty notorious for crappy paint. Our 2015 Odyssey lacks any depth and will
chip off
if you look at it wrong.

2013 sedans already have paint fade, too. It’s weird to see.

My blue pearl 2012 coupe was repainted under that TSB. I barely met the cutoff in late 2015.

Technically I am south of the Mason-Dixon line, so yeah, dirty souf!!!
While I’ve certainly seen other cars with peeling paint, these Civics just disintegrate.

There was an extended warranty for this (long since gone) but Honda ... *sigh*.

As a public service announcement, I have a ‘07 Si whose red paint looks like new. My secret is once a year waxing. I would consider a once a year wax as maintenance for any paint.

I’m gonna buy one and vinyl wrap it in paisley and then rename myself James May.

Oddly enough, my 2001 Civic has been fine in paint regards.

Honda in general has bad paint and clear coat. Look at any black Honda in the past 10 years. If it wasnt waxed or taken care of its peeling. They use water based paint and meh clear coat.

Yeah, I saw a beige SI, yes they sold the Si in beige... well it’s more like toupee. Anyway the paint was destroyed on every panel.
My cousin’s white CRZ is starting to peel as well, but only on the front bumper.
